The Great American Family
Documentary & Book · Written & Directed by Weam Namou
Through the lens of a single case, this powerful documentary examines critical issues affecting American families — the criminal justice system, political double standards, and the erosion of the American dream. In 2009, Dawn Hanna was sentenced to six years in federal prison for allegedly brokering telecom equipment to Iraq during the sanctions. What the jury never knew: her co-conspirator was a CIA operative, and the project was government-sponsored.
The companion book won a 2017 Eric Hoffer Award. The feature documentary earned over a dozen international awards, including IndieFEST and ImpactDocs honors, and is now available on Prime Video.

Pomegranate
Drama · Written & Directed by Weam Namou
In the weeks before the 2016 U.S. election, a young Iraqi Muslim immigrant struggles to find her footing among politically conservative Iraqi Christians while navigating family expectations and cultural identity. Funny, honest, and deeply human — Pomegranate is a story about reclaiming your voice in a world that was not built to hear it.
The first Iraqi-American narrative feature film — led by a female writer/director and an all-female leading cast from the community portrayed. Cast authentically: real Muslim Iraqis play the Muslim family, real Chaldean Iraqis play the Christian family. Now streaming in 25 countries on digital platforms worldwide.
